NEW TO PLECOS -- MY SET-UP & SOME STOCK

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Are you quarantining any of these before you put them in the main tank? I can't help but think you're going to put something dangerous in there and wipe it all out.

Absolutely on point!! I wrote at the beginning of this thread that I made many noob mistakes....... this was one of them..... I added plecos left and right regardless of source...... I got something really bad which cleaned out about 40% of my plecos at the time..... considering my many years in the hobby, it was an absolute horrendous decision on my end. After clearing the bug, I now only add pieces directly to my pleco tank that I know for a fact have been in captivity for a long time with no disease issue(s)..... and yes I realize this is still risking it....... I have several plecos currently in quarantine.

I hope new pleco keepers like my self will learn from my nooby decisions. :)

I did that back in the 90's. At my peak I had 50 different kinds of plecos. Turns out, I like the more common(big) ones such as Rhino, Albino Sailfin, Normal Sailfin, Pardalis, Multiradiatus. Which yes are all in the Pterygoplichthys family

My rhino pleco is one of my favorites! Starting to discover which ones i'm not crazy about. Might sell some pieces in the next month or so.
