I think my Lima catfish ate a rock. I feed him a piece of krill 2 days ago, yesterday I noticed a bump in is stomach that was further up toward his mouth than normal. His food using doesn't rest this high. I hoped he was just digesting the krill different but today the bump is in the exact spot and any food would have be digested by now. What do or can I do if it is a rock? Is there anything else It might be besides a rock in his stomach?
Thanks so much

Did you actually see him eat the rock or are you just speculating? In the past I've seen catfish I've had eat rocks and they pass them....usually.

I had an rtc/Lima shovel nose hybrid that liked to swallow large gravel and marbles, I got scared but he was still eating so I just fed him till he grew enough to spit it up after 3-4 days. Hope yours spits it out soon

Thanks for the responses. No I didn't seem him eat it, just speculating.. yeah hopefully he passes it or spits it back out. I'm going feed him tonight hopefully he'll eat :)

I've seen this happen with TSN, RTC, and TSNxRTC but never with an LSN.

9 times out of 10 our pets appear to simply regurgitate foreign objects if it is too large to be passed. On occasion, some action may be required, e.g., manual removal, flushing of the stomach, etc. If it comes to that, we can point you to how it's done.

Thanks. My Lima did spit the rock back out earlier today and hes eating like normal :)

Have you witnessed the spitting out?

In any case, it is the most probable scenario. I am glad your cat fell into the 90% category that needs no external help and I thank you for providing us with this new knowledge nugget that it can happen to LSN too.

I didn't see it happen but one minute he had the bulge in his stomach and ten minutes later it was gone. Yeah happy he took care of it him self!
