bad idea or good idea? the reason im considering is cuz my male jag has a tiny appetite and isnt very active. the temp is at 82 but i read the ideal temp for jags is 77-97. what do u guys think?

Um don't go to 90. Waste of energy, no needed. Experiment and find what foods it likes the most.
90 is for when treating nasty infections and illness with salt.

I've always kept every type of tropicals at 78-80. Just because a fish can tolerate certain temps doesn't mean it prefers it.

If you plan to go to 90 then you better run a couple of airstones to up the O2.

The average temp range of Lake Managua, the lake P managuense is named after, are 75'F to 82.5'F.
The problem I find with temps above this range, is many bacteria that are pathogenic to fish, thrive at temps 82 and above.
One that comes to mind that becomes particularly virulent at 82 and above is Flexibactor columnaris, the bacteria that causes duck lips.

Yep, +1 to what Duane posted. IMO very bad idea, and for that reason I prefer to keep temps in the 76-78F range.

+2 I don't even keep my Altums at 90 degrees.
