I saw a nice little fat one at the lfs the other day and was immediately struck by how great he looked. I'd never seen one in person before, online they looked more like darker albinos, but at 2.5 inches this one was a beautiful gold color with golden-yellow eyes as well. He looked like a perfect chubby red oscar, except he was golden yellow where the red would be. I was blown away and immediately wanted one, and I would have gotten this one but he's too big for what Im doing at the moment, which is starting out with 2 inch fishes, an ebjd, chocolate and super red sev. What I can do is wait till my fish get up to 4-5 inches and then get a 2-3 inch lemon oscar.

But I was close to shifting things around to get this one, luckily the next day someone bought him from under me :)

I was surprised by how cool he looked in person, and my most knowledgeable fish guy doesnt know much about them and I find that theyre pretty rare, at least compared to regular oscars.

So Im turning to the infinite collective knowledge of MFK to learn me about this fish, any info is appreciated.

They are the same as all aquarium strain oscars, just that they have been selected (line bred) to show more yellow.

Interesting, they not only show more yellow, but they are fully yellow, including the eyes. I suppose its just a color morph that is purposely bred, similar to ebjds? The one I saw was very healthy, alert and active.

There really isn't much to tell about them. They are a man made strain line bred for a gold/yellow color. They are no different than a red oscar, a tiger oscar, a platinum oscar or a long finned oscar as far as their development goes. You either like them or you don't. Just google "Lemon Oscar" there are pictures of them all over the place.

I just googled them and I like them. They look really nice.
