Black belt beat up and panting!

I left my BB with a lugubris pike in an 8 gallon bucket for the day because my QT tank had a massive 4.0 ammonia spike a few days back....now my black belt had his fins shreded and now he's barely clinging onto his life, sitting on the sand....................is it curtains for him?

Within minutes, he's swimming around but not as lively as he did before. He is no longer sitting and panting on the sand, thank god.

Occasionally lying on his side, then goes on to act normal. But he's probably been beaten up for 10 hours straight....any help is appreciated.

not the smartest move, I assumed you seperated them. Can you get him into an established tank? A 8 gallon bucket is not good for a day even without any other aggressive fish in it. If you can get him into an established tank. Keep the light off - well oxygenated, temp around 80. Keep least stress as possible

I did that, and he's doing great................I just moved him because I introduced new fish, and he isn't very friendly to new kids.

Black belts nor lugubris puked are not community fish in general. Even so you shouldn't leave a fish in a bucket a while day regardless of the circumstance. I'm glad he's doing great

Yeah, I should have just kept my lugubris by himself instead of putting him in my 75. The lugubris died earlier today from the wounds the BB inflicted, and likely due to the bad water quality of the bucket..........next time I have to resort to using a bucket, I'm hooking a cycled filter on it.....
