Never had one before, so this is my first 5 incher. Trying to starve it onto floating sticks. How long can it go without eating and not get sick? Will I be able to get it onto floating sticks?

Just introduce the sticks slowly. Get it eating well and recognizing that you are its food source, then little by little introduce food sticks as another option. Eventually, it should be aggressive enough at feeding time to strike at anything. Patience is the key. Arowana and most all silver scale fish spook very easily. Go slowly and get it trusting you.

I know someone that is a firm supporter or garlic guard. She got her silver on pellets in a week.

What's it feeding on ATM ? You can season prawn/shrimp with crushed pellets to get it used to the taste , then once a little bigger start to stuff pellets into the prawn to get it used to the texture , eventually they take pellets
If this doesn't work wait until 7-8" then starve it onto pellet , itll eat before it starve to death I've starved jardini for up to 10 days at this size before. Also what tank mates has it got ? because if the foods disappearing quickly it'll prompt it to grab a few pellets before it looses out to the rest.
Good luck whatever method you choose , but if you keep trying eventually you'll get there just don't give up and feed it treats all the time , my mates got a eight year old Asian aro that will still only eat mealworms and prawns because it wasn't pellet trained when young , now its become a pain for him as he's breeding the mealworms :banghead::)

I train & feed my baby arowana by azoo 9 in 1 baby sticks. He likes & eats a lot. Today, I accidentally dropped saki hikari fancy goldfish pellets (green bag) for my ranchu inside aro's tank. He ate them also. Is there any side effects? Can aro eat fancy goldfish food? Please do advise. Thanks advanced!.

I got it yesterday. It was being fed krill.

Not much difference in pellets. Some have more vegetable matter in them, like the goldfish pellets. Other than that, they are basically made from the same ingredients. Varying the diet, even when it's on pellets exclusively, is very important IMO. One kind of pellet may have different types and levels of nutrients in it, versus another type. I always try to mix up different foods with my fish. I think it helps anyway. Thanks
