How do you fight the urge

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't know if you own your own house and pay all the electricity bills but when your electric bill averages $350.00 to $450.00 a month its not hard decision to limit how many tanks you need running.

Hear ya. I sometime feel like Gary Sinise o. The movie Apollo 13 counting all the watts :).

I fight the the urge by setting a $$$amou t I need to save. Also started to play more golf again. My girlfriend has started to e joy this hobby too. She is. Ow doing all the spending ..... Hahaha. Recently she purchased 2 breeding pairs of Wild caught Calvus and the shocker is that she sourced close to $500 for this. I always loved Inkfin Calvus....this is quite rare in the hobby....wala she maillordered 2 breeding pairs !!

The industry decided to fight the urge for me through rent prices going up so much that all the LFS' closest to me have all closed down except for one...

So now if i want to find fish stuff i have to make my way to fish street...

I was a vegan during some of my earlier fishkeeping years which made me take dead fish a lot more seriously. The mindset kinda stuck even though I now love a medium rare ribeye.

As I'm planning a large build (about 1000gal), my electric rate just went up by nearly 40%, so now I'm reconsidering the size of my future monster tank :irked:

I'm going to use heat coming from my hot water tank to heat my build. Brainstorming on some super cheap filtration as well.

This always interested me and keeps me from expanding. I want to find out if there was a way to run these tanks off od solar panels and have it connected to my main elec as back up

Yeah, I read into that, but just not completely convince on its efficiency and not sure this would help me much since my hot water is fueled by propane.......which is also pretty pricy in my neck of the woods. I'm contemplating on investing in solar panels that's dedicated just for the heating of the tank, but that's another project onto itself...and of which I have about zero knowledge of.

I would go full solar in a heartbeat, but my roof just doesn't face the proper side for full scale efficiency those solar power leasing companies are looking for :(

Me either but would def love to explore it. Man open a thread on it. If i could figure a way to get my tank off of the main elec...i could def add another large one or two

Ours is natural gas. However I'm not going to use heated water from the tank. I found a few really hot spots around the bottom of the tank where the pilot light is. I'm going to see if I can catch that heat and bring it back to the tank. $0 to heat the tank if this works.
