Lacerdae hoplias ID?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Im still very happy with it both fish a fairly rare Hoplias Australis was next on my list to get but now im back to wanting a Hoplias Lacerdae

If it's that hard to tell these fish apart then why spend all the money on the more expensive one?

The more expensive ones are fairly easy to tell, it's now that we are becoming familiar with new species, I'm not one that buys the expensive ones, most expensive fish I have is a curupira, I don't have the luxury to keep the larger more expensive species, but for the others, if it was me I'd buy them out of curiosity and to learn about the species, it's part of the fun of the hobby in my opinion.

Looks like malabaricus to me, but australis is new to me, and I have not seen one, so who knows... This is when I missed braveheartcalif and his knowledge dearly!
Going off of that yours only has 4 pores it says australis always has 5. You have a very nice mala nonetheless

A guy who came back with ken. Ken IDed it in Uruguay as a Lacerdae. Here's what ken says:View attachment 1066317View attachment 1066318
