Lacerdae hoplias ID?

ive been told mine is a Hoplias Australis
Definitely not a lac from that jaw shot. Looks mala, could just be a very nice looking variant, don't get your hopes up and debunk the possibility. But I'd say australis is possible as of now not much is known of the species, I've not seen any except I think Liam has one. There's been a lot of confusion going around right now as far as ID goes for wolves. Lacerdae, aimara, curupira are easy (except lacerdae when small can be hard). But a guy on another thread said australis have that jaw line too so there's much confusion right about now. You should be able to find out it's true identity soon enough though.

If it's that hard to tell these fish apart then why spend all the money on the more expensive one?

Wolves are just like Payara or Goonch. Different species = different max sizes, different temperaments. If you keep monsters and try to get a monster species and end up with a smaller species it might end up an expensive snack.
