Aquarium getting too hot.

A pump and heater in one. Wish I had this issue with my 180 in my unheated basement. Say some dough on the heating aspect.

I don't have cut-outs in my glass tops. Put the fans blowing into the sump.

Take my Mag drives! lol but in seriousness, a magnetic driven pump should not run this hot. Other pumps have the same output gph with no problems. :thumbsdown: Magdrive
 
The power heads really arent the problem, but they are if that makes sense.

Yes the pump is heating the water up but the heat has nowhere to go as in "up". You can remove a section of the tank lid or leave cracks and that will dissipate the heat by a abundant amount. But if you do go the fan route I would suggest a simple computer fan, cheaper than a regular fan saves a ton of power and I'm sure it'll get the job done.

If I'm not mistaken he would need a 12v dc power supply to run a computer fan. Unless he has a computer a few feet from the tank.

Personally I would lower the circulation anyways. I have never needed that many power heads especially with 2 decent rated pumps to begin with. When I had my 135 sumped I pushed 1500 gph through it and never had any debris accumulate in the tank. It sound like he could save some hydro and solve his problem with a bit better placement of returns and maybe 1 power head.

Its actually really easy to convert fans to wall outlets as shown here, its just a simple ground and power wire you splice and tape or nut together. I wouldn't even bother soldering them together.

I used two decent size fans over the sump and the temperature has gone from 84.7* with no heaters, to now 81.1* with one heater running. The fans are seaming to do the job.
