Realistic Lifespan of glass aquariums?

If you don't break it, a tank should last forever. Resealing really isn't a big deal. All but one of my tanks were bought as leakers for pennies on the dollar. From 20 to 180 gallons.
 
i have a 300 from a pet store from back in the 80's. when i bought it i had to reseal it since the people i bought it from had dropped it and busted a corner. didnt seal it right and had to reseal it about two years later. been set up for a few years again
 
I bought a 60G from a yard sale 1992 and I'm abuse it to the extreme like use it like a sump, QT fresh water feeder, grow out tank, move house at least 5 times, and even used it in my garden for some cactus growing for few years, then I cleaned it up and using it as temp grow out recently and still hold water like a damn new tank, no leak whatsoever even all side glasses got beat up with all scratches LOL
 
90% of my tanks are old craigslist buys. I have a 165 gallon tank from 1981, it is 6 feet long, 30 inches wide and only 17 inches tall. I have resealed it once when I picked it up and still going strong 5 years later. For some reason in my neck of the woods, old 5 foot long Perfecto tanks are the most common. They are built to withstand gunshots I think. I have resealed them all, fixed center braces, etc. They are all great. If there is no structural damage to the glass, they can always be resealed no problem. Glass is the way to go for longevity and strength.
 
Thanks for all the replies. I'm confidence to invest in a large expensive glass tank.

Im Really surprised nobody chimed in trying to sell me on an acrylic tank.

You said you weren't interested in acrylic so I didn't see the point. I will never buy a large glass tank but many others love them so go for it
 
I heard 20 years. Then is just better to re sicilicon just for safe play :popcorn: But my grandfather have his tank for even more and it's not leaking. I'm doing maintenance on his tank because he is 73 years old.
