Questions About Sterilizing Tank and Equipment

In over three decades, I have never seen the need to sterilize tanks or filters....
Why?

Same reason hospitals bleach down patient rooms and I wash my hands before eating and after going to the bathroom: infections control

Is sterilizing tanks and equipments effective? I don't have a scientifically provened answer, but my theory is that microbes are microbes, so I practice the same methods of infectious control, I'm trained to ultilized, at work...as well as when I'm not at work.

I do it to clean off algae and anything that I would get damaged with a brush to clean off. It works amazingly!! Also for hard water stains or coralline algae, water amd white wine vinegar works like a champ too!!

Same thing. I got 4 Fluval 404s off someone here for $10!! The hob is off of my quarantine tank. I got a whole group of Angelfish that died in there. I couldn't figure out why, but I'm not chansing my new Discus in there, it's too easy to do a fishless cycle instead of worrying what if.. nice seein ya pops

I'll have to try white wine vinegar, I have some hard water stains I'd like to remove, thanks!

Lol, if you pay for the postage, I'll send you the media that I got in those canisters! I don't know anything about what it's been through, but when I emptied out the media and little water, it literally burned holes in my lawn :/

I'll clean every thing tomorrow. I think I am going to burp the motors on with the bleach mixture in, just to be sure, I'll run it and rinse it thoroughly.
