Hi guys, it's my first post so please be nice ;)

I've recently set up a 75gal/4ft tank w/ a Fluval FX6.
I haven't got any substrate in yet (am waiting for it to be back in stock) but I am planning use CaribSea Torpedo Beach, which is a coarse white sand. The background is plain black.

The tank currently contains:

1 x Red Severum (my pride and joy)
2 x Green Severums
5 x Peppermint Bristlenose Catfish

The Green Severums may or may not stay. I kind of bought them on a whim because they were cheap. All the fish are still pretty small so space isn't an issue yet. I guess we'll see how they go once everyone gets big.

The Peppermint BNs were given to me by a friend and are still pretty little. They ended up in the Sev tank because I thought I might as well get the Sevs used to having little tank mates now while everyone's still a baby rather than deal with aggressiveness down the line. These can be moved to my other tank if need be.

Anyway, my goal for this tank is for it to have a couple of really unique/personable sort of fish in it. Hence me getting the Red Sev. He is only a baby and he is already stunning. I want another fish that is really unique and that stands out. I want this to be one of those tanks that non-fish people get a kick out of.

I was thinking some kind of unique Catfish? I am also considering a Freshwater Crab. What are your thoughts. I want something non-cichlid because I really don't want to have to deal with aggression.

Nice! I just got my own red sev in my 75g tank. He's in there with three juvenile greens, and my plan is to eventually pair down to my two favorite sevs. Also have a convict, but I'm beginning to regret it due to the aggression. I wouldn't rule our another cichlid altogether...there are plenty on the more peaceful side...I'm just not sure which! I've kept firemouths with severums before and that went pretty well. I recently saw some stunning albino firemouths...completely white except for their bright red area below the gills...they would go great with a super red sev. But at $150 each they were well out of my price range.

How much did you pay for your super red? Mine was $40 here in Alaska; special order via LFS.

I have Red severum with honduran red points and rainbow cichlids and they do great. But 3 severum in a 75 I think you are pretty well stocked let them grow out and you can have some giants. If you over stock they will get stunted.

I don't really want to rule out another cichlid, but like you I really don't want to deal with the aggression issues should they arise. It's too much fuss.

I think I am going to get a couple more types of catfish for the tank. A Bumblee Bee Catfish and maybe a Whiptail or something. I would really like a Raphael Catfish but they are pretty hard to come by here.

I paid waaaaay to much for mine. Not really willing to post about it here but I guess there's somewhat of a story behind the price. Shoot me a PM and I'll tell you if you like.

I think you're right, 3 is borderline too much. I may eventually part with one or both of the greens. I will steer away from other cichlids I think because I don't want to have to deal with aggression issues.

Cool fish. Dont wanna be the stocking police or anything but for the long term health of your red sev i wouldnt add anything. Infact i would remove the other sevs and leave things be.
