lava rock vs bio balls

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I also use poly floor stripper pads either whole in my large filters and barrel filters or cut into wedges in smaller w/d filters. They're more rigid than pot scrubbies and can be stacked deeper with less compaction.

Perhaps I am not imaging your setup right from the description but if I do, I think it can be set up as a downflow too. I am not trying to push you down a path you don't want. Selfishly, I'd like to understand your reasoning, is all, to learn.

Anyone ever use bath loofahs?

I'll get a picture of the setup tomorrow so you can visualize

Shredded curls of Rubbermaid tubs work excellent also. Or if you want another excellent bio surface, buy the nylon bristle brooms and seal the ends of the bristles with silicon, then cut the bristles free from the plastic head of the broom. You can lay them crisscross all across the top of each other for a phenomenal bacterial surface area in a trickle design. And, if ever you need to, they can be cleaned extremely quickly.

page 8 http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=33968&start=140 2/3rds down the page there is a post of Mon Oct 13, 2014 3:10 pm with 3 photos. I used a three-point spade wood drill bit to drill 1.5" holes in a 500 gal PE water storage tank to make a strainer out of it for a mechanical prefilter. I am using these PE shavings as a media too. They have a helical shape.

Thanks for the link, I am enjoying the vids and read. Any shots or videos of the filtration system in action?

You might look into Growstones as well. Very lightweight and porous. I use it as the grow medium and ONLY filtration on my aquaponics setup. You can find a lot of sellers on amazon. It's powdered glass and calcium carbonate mixed, fired and broken. awesome stuff.

Is this a question to the OP, me, or someone else?

Sorry, it was to you about your public aquarium.

P.S. I love how your giant gourami likes to photo bomb your videos ;)
