About to build a new plywood aquarium which will be minimum 370gallons possibly more but no more than 450gallons. First I would like to know what size sump I would need to make but keep in mind I need to fit it under my stand. Tank dimensions are 6-8ft long depends what I choose and 3 ft wide, height will be between 2 and 3 ft. I want to know what pump to use in the sump that will provide good filtration but still be a good even flow. I have found these two pumps but I'm really not sure what to go with because I have never used a simp before so please can I have some advice on this. Oh also, is a power head wave maker any good for a freshwater tank or is it mainly to create ocean flow in marine tanks. Here are the pumps that I've found.

First thing I see is that those pumps are going to be way to small for a system that big, Think of a turn over rate of 7 times an hour for your tank. Less can work but not well at all, its going to be dirty and need far more work.

I would go with the 1200 or larger if you can just because you are not sure 100 percent how big you are going to go, and the wattage is not that much more and gives you a little better flow for balancing out how high the pump needs to push the water. As I said buy a bigger water pump and the tank will stay cleaner and be better overall. For a sump I would be looking for a tank that is about 100 gallons-125 gallons, need to remember as a sump it will not be full so you need space for everything and more space makes it easy, I would also remind you that you need to work in the sump for cleaning so try to keep your stand tall and make it easy on your self

Thank you very much for your help :) I just want to know if you think that this pump will be crap or not like it's pretty good if you ask me, on sale for $75 and it's got a 10000litre per hour flow rate. But I'm just wondering if it's better to spend an extra $100 or so to get a different brand ?

Look on here, I think you will find some nice pumps for good prices, I have the DC 12000s on a couple smaller tanks and they are enough for about a 250 gallon tank, I have a 400 gallon tank and one is not really enough to keep it super clean, The new models are the DCT models, if I was you I would get the 15000 and have everything you will need for the tank you plan and want.
The pumps you are showing I know nothing about, never heard of them and would be a little leary of them but maybe they are good, I dont know

Would 2, 500w heaters work okay in the sump? And is a wave maker necessary or of any benefit ?
