Piranha tank maintenance

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My reds are skittish so whenever I turn up the light and stick my arm in the tank, they hide. Even then, I make sure to have my eye on them at all times.

When the lights are dimmed, they come back out and swim around like normal.

I never tried to kerp piranhas before... are they easy to keep?
What I can advise is have a look up on what u ell be expecting from a P . As so if you are well prepared and also if u are thinking about having a P just becoz its aggressive and fierce to look at than think again there are pros and cons :)
Hope to see ur collection of P's soon ..cheers

Hi guys... just curious how you guys maintain your piranha tanks... and how do you avoid being bitten?
Piranha name does give people a bit worry but in home aquarium piranha is a pussy cat :P they don't live up with their reputation compare to Hoplias Aimara!

That really also depends on wat type of P
U are taking about . If you talking about red belly yes they are pussy :)

I could think of alot worse fish to stick my hand in with. Got zapped real bad by an electric catfish before. Jabbed by shovelnose cat fin. Bit by an Undulatus triggerfish. 15 years working in a pet store had me pretty hardened to being bitten/attacked. I tell you though, hamster bites are the worst. Fed many to our resident Pac-Man frog.
