My jacks are confusing the crap out of me. First off they aren't growing very fast. Second one is basically all black and has only a few visible blue spots. And the other one is growing a little faster and is a lighter color with alot of spots. But I'm having trouble sexing it because the bottom on its mouth seems like a female and male so idk. How big in size do they have to be to properly sex and when do they start breeding and at what size?

They can start breeding when they are quite small .... at around 2 inches or around 4 months old. Are they eating well? How many times a day are you feeding them? What size tank are they in? Good filtration?

I'm pretty sure he is a male I was just over evaluating the situation. Right now they are in a 60 gallon tank with a 55/75 filter along with another in tank filter for 30 gallon tank. I have a divider in the tank that takes up about a 1/4 of it with my baby electric blue JD. And with the divider the water wasn't circulating so I had to but the in tank filter on the little side I do my weekly water changes my waters perfect I feed them a few times a day. They eat really.good. The little one is still all black and I recently got a new female and she's all black unless she's eating I guess it's since she's new. The bigger two are 2-2 1/5 inches big the small ones about an inch. I know they will need a bigger tank this is just temp. WP_20150726_15_30_26_Pro.jpg WP_20150726_15_31_01_Pro.jpg

This is my male and then the female lurking in the background.

See how she is already getting dark. They will spawn soon. Is her vent showing?

No her vent isn't showing yet. I thought she was just dark because she was new to the tank. I have a smaller one that I have had for two months that I can't address for the life of me because it shows no color at all. No blue or anything. She starting to lighten up a little she had a pretty bad case of ick I think I'm on day two of treatment with malachite green. Hoping it does the trick and she's ok
