Hello fellow members I have 4 bichirs in a 100 gallon tank. Of course all upper jaw I have a delhezi (5 inch), an albino seg (8 inch), palmas polli (6 inch) and a regular dark grey segenal (11 inch). I saw this beautiful (3 inch) Senegal where he or she would look like a beautiful shiny white with yellow dorsal fins and i really want it. I know quite a bit about bichirs but some people say don't put a small one with the larger ones but my bichirs could have eaten my delhezi he was 2 inches and so skinny but he was fine. (Obviously I watched how they reacted around him they smelled him and kept swimming, except my albino Dracula, he tended to lay next to him or put his head on top of himbut never harmed him). The only reason I'm asking this question is because someone on yahoo said that delhezi's are very cannibalistic but all my research i put in (2 hours) said that only the lower jaw were cannibals and ornates and weeksi's. Would he or she be safe?

All polys are opurtinistic deep down. I wouldn't advise it. If the head can fit in its mouth then it will try to eat it. Others do keep smaller polys together with larger ones. I would suggest go to lowes or Home Depot get an acrylic sheet for cheap cut to the size of ur aqaurium and some suction cups and separate him. Once he's put on size you can put him in with the others. The other polys are likely not gonna grow much faster but the senegalus can be power fed and be put with the others. Welcome to the poly club and the forum.

There's always a chance with polys if there is a huge size difference. I would try and grow it out a couple more inches to be safe.

Alright I'll grow him out to be safe, how big should i get him before taking out the divider? And i give mine live feeders and beef heart to make them grow faster anything else I could do?

And i'll put a picture of the little guy or sheila after I get it settled a few days

Would wait till it's like 6 inches and the girth are bigger or wide as their mouths. Just to be on the safe side. Plus at 6-7 inches it will plateau with its size especially if it's cb.

Okay sounds good and I was only worried because my delhezi is wc and I have had him for a month and he's already grown 3 inches ( whoever says delhezi grow slow hasn't seen my Lawrence Talbot o_O;))
