Armatus life span in aquarium

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Everyone waiting on Krich lol, last time he updated his was like 20" IIRC.
LOL, I wasn't aware anyone was waiting for me to post but my beast died about a year ago at close to two foot.

Cause of death?
Not sure really,I was upstairs when I heard a loud noise coming from the basement.I run down there to find my army flapping around on the floor.Something must have startled it and it launched itself up through the lid,out of the tank and onto the floor. It was pretty scarrred up by the time I was able to grab it and place it back in the tank and it died two days later.

You might get 3-4 years out of them if you do everything right.

I have had several and got the last one to 24" before he checked out.
They are so worth it tho

I had mine about that long before it jumped. It was my third and most successful armatus...when I first got it I told myself that it would be my last attempt at keeping them.

Is there any Info on how long they live in the Wild? I don't know if I'd be satisfied, raising up an absolute beast and after a year at a large size it Tops itself..

Spot on right there. Failing with Armatus is what made me fall in love with Hoplias. Simply a better choice of fish for our little glass boxes.

I hope I can keep my trio for years to come! So are the huge ones we see in tanks over seas collected at large sizes then? Surely someone has kept an armatus in home aquaria over 3 years.

It doesnt take lone for them to get HUGE like the ones overseas. I think the occasional may be kept a little longer, just not the majority.

Mine hit 24" in a couple years.
