Howdy,

I just picked up an 8'' royal from Ely's here in NJ. I love that store, it has character - and good fish, including monsters. I saw this royal, and these guys are just such awesome classics that I couldn't help but bring him home. This little guy needs to beef up a bit, but looks healthy.

congrats, I was debating on getting one for my planted column tank, but i feel once he gets bigger he's going to uproot everything.

Thanks, guys.
I'll find out and let you know, Milky.

Elys is such a cool store. I love that you have to take your time and really dig thru each tank to see what's in them.

Wow! That is really a monster in the making. Congrats and good luck with it.

It's surely old school.
I'd do an MFK trip there, but we'd be clogging the aisles...

Steve now has fat fire eels in stock. Really sweet. Yellow fin chalceus. You never see these for sale, and Steve has them. $30, not bad. And beautiful yellow-fin tinfoil barbs. Cute monsters in the making.

I really liked what he has in stock, and you're right, I spent a full hour discovering fish in the sales tanks. It was fun.

I haven't been there in a long time. I have to take a ride over. To be honest I forgot all about the place until this thread.

Nice Royal! I haven't had one in a long time, but always loved the pattern. How has it been with the plants? My old Royal use to uproot what little plants I had at the time all the time...at least when it was around 6"

I actually caught it back out of that tank to beef it up a bit. Was housed with angelfish and red tail cats in the store, and was outcompeted by them for food.
It's in a java fern tank right now and not rearranging anything. But then: it's java fern...
Eating tons of redworms and krill right now. Will try pellets shortly.

I'll update on plants once it's back in the main tank.
