Can cichla choke? Or eat themselves to death?

I could show you a pic of my little bass with bellies bigger then there bodies. Never ever lost a fish from eating to much in one feeding!
Pellets soften right up and wouldn't be like if they eat a rock or something and it got stuck.

Not to sound negative or offend you but I would check over your husbandry again because I have a feeling something is not consistent hence your losses.

I hear ya, I checked everything and he was absolutely perfect this morning. Like I said he was in perfect shape, just dead :( It happened so quick and no signs of anything else on his body.. I think she didn't break up the pellet into small enough pieces. I'm feeding them massivores that I break up and I think she left big chunks

Little bass are known for "just dieing". Had a couple little bass that just died on me with no rhyme or reason.

Ive had some bass eat until they literally couldn't put anything else in their mouths and looked like their stomachs were going to explode. I have never lost one and this is dealing with tons of bass over the years. I think the only way they would die is if they somehow limited the water flowing over their gills. Just my opinion based on what I have seen.

Fish can bite off more than they can chew for sure. I recall koltsixx koltsixx having a problem with this in the past. Not cichla though.

Pellets soften but they also expand, which has always made me nervous about over feeding.

Remember the episode of river monsters on armatus? Wade pulled a dead one out of the water that died from eating another fish that was too big. Idk if it choked but I do know that small cichla are sensitive and delicate and die very easily. As suggested I would check my water parameters, temp, and make sure that its oxygenated.

How small are they In

Ya they do expand especially massivore more so then NLS. I was thinking more of a loged object where it couldn't move water through its gills. Thinking pellets would be soft enough to prevent that.

Ya seen the armatus. Bass are amazing though how they can just gape and suck a fish right back which would make me think that fish that use the gape and suck are much less prone to "over feeding death" then say predators that have teeth to assist with catching prey?

In the wild does any one know if food is readilyreadily available where bass are gorging or not?

Is this something caused from being wc? Or is this an issue with cb pbass as well?
I've owned nothing but wild caught bass. It could be that their instincts would tell them to eat as much as they can to live due to the fact that they don't know when their next meal will be. CB bass seems to do better as it is "programmed" on when feeding is expected. IMO. I take that back, I've owned F1 Bahia kelberis.
