I woke up today to go do some laundry and get ready to start my day. as I walked into my basement, my african arowana (26"+ beast) flew up and slammed my glass top knocking it sky high and falling into the tank. i am so glad that my tank didnt break as there doesnt seem to be any damages (Yet). But the glass top is destroyed. it managed to crack and break the front flap cover. my tank is a 300 gallon glass aquarium from glasscages. 8 feet. will be upgrading soon, to a much larger. story of the morning!

Forget the coffee......need the glass banging/cracking early morning.

Look over the center brace carefully...it could have been weakened. if it goes, the rest of the tank can go.

Sorry I was being sarcastic and my whole message didn't type in but yes not a good way to wake up at all.

It's usually not a good thing when a big fish gets spooked.

This is why and what I've been contemplating before I get another Lei.

I have a glass tank, with Eurobrace and 4 - 29" long x 4" wide x 1/2" thick cross braces. I have 3 1/4" glass lids sitting on top of the braces. I had some acrylic locking tabs to fit under the bracing, but that wasn't a good design. So I now I have some fluval suction cups between each lid with an acrylic rod on top. The idea with the suction cups and rod isn't to keep the lid completely "locked", but hopefully enough brace so the lids don't go flying when the fish jumps. I also use thick heavy duty felt under the glass, for obvious reasons.

How big are your glass lids and how much do they weigh? Good luck with you situation.

Ouch, that is definitely not good. Was the fish stunned at all after the jump, or did it continue on as normal?
