This is my frat house tank, at home I have a 55 gallon with my Texas cichlid but here I my space is a lot more limited. Filtered by an AC20 and a sponge filter. Currently trying to grow Val and Anubias under the stock incandescents. current inhabitants are two male N. Multifasciatus, I will be heading to the PCCA auction on Saturday to hopefully pick up some females.

Nice. Nothing better than a shellie tank. I have three or four of them.

Nice! I've been thinking of trying a shelldweller set-up quite recently too...

any pictures of your 55?

Yeah I actually have a thread about it from a little bit back,

And I'm excited to get some females in there so I can see how they interact as just these 2 males together have been quite entertaining. Hopefully the cichlid auction will have some!

Wait until there is a colony going with tons of fry. The integration is awesome.

If you want to try your hand at a bit harder species, the gold or blue/purple occies are even more active. But they are mean as hell. I have some blue/purple occies right now.

Update I picked up 7 new multies in an auction for $13, quite a steal. Also pretty fun to go to the auction. 7 was a little more then I wanted but I was getting desperate to find some. So far the new big male that was introduced has taken over and put 4 little guys in the top corner but they are slowly making their way down into the shellbed.

Awesome. They should settle in fairly soon. You may eventually have to remove a male or two.

Another update, I've had green hair algae in the tank since it cycled and its the only tank that I've ever had gha in. So I decided I need to bring in some outside help, Amano Shrimp! The Shellys pretty much leave them alone so far. If these guys survive I'll for sure get some more they are very interesting little creatures.

How long should I wait to remove them? The alpha male has had 4 guys in a corner or near the surface for about 3 days now. I'm pretty sure it's safe to assume those 4 are males right? I don't want to remove them too quick tho because I want to give them a chance to find their spot in the colony.

You have to make a judgement call. If they are getting hurt, then pull them. If you want to try and settle them in, try rearranging the tank a few times and see if that works.
