Hi guys, need to ask; does anyone use tank covers for their fancy goldfish tanks?

I only ask as I plan on setting up a tank with no lid, maybe 1 - 1.5 inches from surface to the rim of the glass. My instinct tells me it wouldn't be a problem since fancies can't really jump; but if anyone has experienced disasters of this kind, please let me know.

Goldfish ain't jumpers. I have common goldfish for years. Kept them in a tank without lid they never jumped out. They're just lazy.

I've only had 1 common jump (he survived and was fine). I wouldn't think it would be an issue with a fancy fish (I have one at the moment), but I personally wouldn't risk in case of overflow/unexpected high water level (say filter went out and more water emptied into the tank) with that small of a gap.

It'll probably be fine, but you never know.

I highly doubt that fancies can jump. Theoretically the tank could overflow and spill them out, but they aren't going to jump.
