I would just use clove oil. It should make her sleep than stops bodily functions while asleep, just like the cocktail of drugs used in lethal injections. The first is a sedative, second is a paralyzer, third stops the heart instantly.

Sounds good, gonna pick up some clove oil tomorrow and put her out of her misery. Does anyone have info on how much to put in to make sure she is dead after she is knocked out? Everything I've read is for fish that are around 3-4 inches. Shes pretty big...

Sorry for the loss of her.

May your future fish be long lived and prosper until the end!

I'm sorry for you and your fish. This is an unfortunate but necessary part of the hobby and it really never becomes easy.
If I may offer some advice, go and get another fish right away. It may not seem like fun, but a new fish will help you keep your mind off of your loss....this helped in the beginning of the hobby for me.

Thanks you, it seems no one know how much clove oil to use though.. I guess two bottles of clove oil in 6 gallons of water should be able to do it. I'll stop by the vet tomorrow and see if they have something they'll sell me that is more effective and quicker than clove oil.

My 13 inch fh is upgrading from a 75 to a 125 now! I guess he'll be happier. Ugh I dont think I'm gonna get anymore fish. Ill probably end up sedating my two fh's in a few years as there 2-3 years old, heard if they get to 5 years old its pretty impressive. My 4 year old jardini hopfully in the next decade as they live 8-10 years. After these fish die I'll be out of the fish game for good, hopefully I dont have to sedate them but rather they just die when I'm not home. I would much rather have them die than me kill them.

Hey guys my 7 year old jag isn't doing well at all.. I noticed that she was having a hard time swimming on sunday and I prepared myself that my 7 year old friend might be dead when I come home from work. She has a curved spine and cannot swim for crap. She seems to only be able to move her fins and breath, eye movement is good tho. Ill sit next to the tank and she'd try her best to come over..

Water parameters should be fine unless I had some sort of freak of nature bio crash or something. Kinda freaked out and just did a large water change when I came back from work and noticed shes still alive.

Shes solo in a 125 at around 16-17 inches. Water quality should be great now as I did a 90% water chang, filter clean, and dosed with a crap ton of safe just to be sure. Doesn't seem that she is getting any better or any worse.

Has anyone ever dealt with a fish's body curving and going limp out of no where??? Shes at the bottom of the tank and she can only move her fins. Its been two days now.. Any suggestions? Should I put her down? I'd get some pictures right now but its late and I dont want to disturb her, Ill update with pictures in the morning.

sorry for the loss, it is tough, I had to euthanize one of my gars after he broke his back. I was going to let him go on but he couldn't eat and would go into fits trying to swim.

You say you'll get out of the game but it always pulls you back in, even after a loss, its a hard addiction to shake brotha.

I had to put down my prized midas rocky, I was gutted but I new it was time. I didn't wait for clove oil as it needed doing then after a day off bobbing around unable to swim. my guys eyes started clouding so I bagged him up and gently placed him in the freezer for an hour, I done research and its pretty humane in my opinion, they just go to sleep as it gradually cools.
