Hey guys,

I never have ideas for titles, so this had to do xD

By that title I mean that I have access to every single species of Arowana, and I guess it makes the choice even harder!

The tank:
It will be done around january.
250*75*60 (8.2' x 2.5' x 2') with 1 big log between the half of the tank and a corner.
Tankmates: 5 Odoe, 3 Kelberis, 1 Juruense.

What do you arowana experts think would be able to live for life in there?

Current plan is Afro, but I'm a little afraid of the feeding needs with 3 cichlas eating whatever touches the water in there, while they might miss bloodworms, I can't really keep an Afro on a single type of diet.

I'd love a Jar or a Formosus, but what are the chances of ending up with no Aro, or only an Aro? xD

PS: I honestly like every single of the Aros, so if the answer is Silver, I'll take that, I love those too, just am not sure I can keep one for like in 75 cm width, I would have a hard time finding a Lei, but given the sufficient funds, I could find one in Germany, and the Asian's only problem is the price, but availability is plentiful.
 
go for the afro and just do what I do with gluttonous fish in comm. tanks, feed them til they can't swim anymore and the target feed the less aggressive tank mates haha.
 
I like that, but cichlas are pretty much bottomless pits xD

So an Afro is fine in those dimensions for life? No doubt about it? :)
 
A small under 6" Afro will be impossible to feed in that tank. Over 6" you will stand a better chance but still dicey IMO. Silvers get big but as far as eating goes it will hold it's own, Blacks are a little smaller, not by too much but will still be able to compete for food. Asians will work but like you said $$$$. Jardini & Leichardti will also fit. Jardinis can be killers so depending on the fish it could eventually wipe out the rest of the tank, Leichardti are more tolerant of tank mates and would be a better option in a community. If I had to choose I would narrow it down to a Black, Leichardti or Asian. If you find a nice Silver you really like I wouldn't rule it out either. As far as cost goes I think Asian $$$$, Leichardti $$$, Jardini & Black $$ and Silver $ at least around here (Asians are however, illegal in the US) but in Canada these price ranges would be valid.

That is the perfect answer, I just would like a very last confirmation regarding what you said.

You mentioned not ruling out silver, would that mean a fully grown silver would still be alright in that tank? 75 cm wide (Yay canada use our metrics :D) for a 80-90 fish? I mean, I know they are flexible, but is it certain that the fish would navigate OK with a width smaller than its size? (I'm not talking about exceptional growth, if that happens, it's bad luck, i'll rehouse, not much I can do about that xD)

A silver will be able to turn around, they practically fold in half, but yes they can get big. The Leichardti season will be coming back up in December/January so you'll be able to get one by the time the tank is ready. Start contacting vendors for price and availability. You should hit the timing just right.
 
I would recommend an Asian green, or low quality RTG Aro. They are the least expensive and I raised one in with 4 peacocks and 4 Dat's for years. They show just enough aggression to keep the other fish away from them but I never saw it actually chase down the others.

I think I can find a Green for about 200 bucks, sounds doable by january, even though the tank will cost me 3k -.- (Fully furnished, 2 filtrations, light etc).

But by then, I might be able to get me a xback, that would be amazing, I just prefer to see the worst picture and be prepared. ;)
 
Cant wait to see pictures. I love the lines of Asian Aros seem to be the best of the Aros ive kept and ive kept, Africans, Leichardti, Jardini, silver, and black.

I would prefer generally the least expensive of the Asian if I had the option in your case. Nothing wrong with that, and, $200 bucks doesn't sound like it's going to break the bank here. That cost less than the price of the Lei I had...LOL
