He is not shy against other fish, but he tries to hide when i make sudden movements... at what point will the beast be a glass banger ?

Well, you have to remember every fish is different. However is he in a high traffic area? or is he in a secluded room? you could try putting a mirror in the tank to help him come out more. Just keep working with him, and be patient.

When he doesn't feel vulnerable. My current jag is doing the same thing, but around the 9" std mark. My last dovii really came out of his shell after I believe 2 yrs then he would attack me. Its in a secluded basement though. Usually fish I've kept in higher traffic areas are more comfortable being out and about with people around.

The glassbanger deal is a case by case basis. Some will about break the glass trying to get to you while others are pretty chill. I've had dovii I could clean the tank with no gloves and another that I couldn't even open the canopy without him trying to jump out.

Also most of the glassbanging crazy dovii ive seen are in too small of a tank or breeding.

I wouldn't take away any hiding spots, that will just stress him out. He will come out when he is not feeling vulnerable just like PYRU said.

some cichlids will just sit in there cave (as cichlids do) eaven if not stressed" Dovii are open water site predators in there home waters! So hideing places are not needed in my opinion!

I agree with Jonny cichla, with shy dovii dimmer lighting gives them a lot more confidence. Or throw a female in with him, his attitude will change real quick

He is in a high Traffic area, 250 g tank, with 2 barred midas. got him when he was 9 inches last May.
He has a large "open cave" which is open back and front. As for adding a female, could not find any in my area.
