Not the usual plywood tank ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Mine was 84" and I've read a few that are at least 96" on here.

I'm looking to build longer than 96". Not too many builds with that dimension that reached completion. :(

The plywood overlap sounds like a sound idea. I figure I'll just build in some extra bracing on the stand where the layover is and might call in a friend to do some killer fiberglass work on it.

Definitely considering the stacked 2x4 with plywood skin idea. Can't get much stronger than that unless you hit the "overkill" button.

Had these bookmarked:
10' x 4' x 3' tank by dscort dscort
104"x 45"x 39" tank by greenterra greenterra
10' x 5' x 42" tank by stingray keeper stingray keeper
29' x 5' x 3' tank by V VLDesign he has a PDF in his sig with the plans if you want to skip 116 pages lol

10 & 12 foot long plywood can be ordered at a lumber yard. I believe this would help solve the problem

Or even 2x6 stacking....
the tank I helped construct was 14'x4'x3'. The three foot depth was a pain later to clean, but it gave a 6-8" freeboard and he was still able to keep the veiwing windows under water...and his viewing windows were standard 2'x8' 1/2" glass. The seam where the plywood joined was just braced with a 2x6 layed flat with a 2x4 stud centered behind. In fact, I am sure the tank was designed with 2x6 construction for just that one design feature. When we skinned the outside, you never saw the seam or the bracing.

In addition to longer (and thicker) plywood being available by special order at some lumber yards, glass is often available up to 130 inch lengths. I've been trying to figure out how to do a 16 footer, up to 10-12 is quite doable.
