Interesting videos from Yucaton. Unlike African Rift Lakes, the water is not clear and cichlid are not the dominating species but a minority among schooling live bearers and tetra.

The cichlids are definitely not the most populace family, for every 1 cichlid, there are probably 100 live bearers.
The only cenote that seemed odd to me, was Azul, here the uropthalmus population was very high. What was interesting about it was in Azul, pellet food was available for tourists to feed the cichlids, and the uros would approach the pier whenever shadows of people came near.

Well what colors would you like to compliment/contrast with your other fish?
I always liked tetras for a top dwelling school. I think black skirt tetras would look pretty cool and would compliment your jack dempsey pair nicely.

wouldnt the jack dempsey eat those ?

I had 25 giant danios in my 135 and it was never a dull moment. Always swimming around and kept to themselves. Ate anything I fed them. Some of them actually were really colorful. Then I made the mistake of adding a pike cichlid and marbled goby to the tank. That was the end of the giant danios. I miss them.
