Center brace came apart

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Also the girl I got it from said she had the tank full with driftwood and discus and she never had a problem with it. Said she asked our lfs about it and they told her they'd be more worried about the top being broken than the bottom.

So apparently it wasn't broken in transit, I just didn't notice it sitting on the black stand

Honestly, if it were my tank, I wouldn't even sweat it.....
But yes, the glass should go front to back centered, and it will be the frame you are siliconing to.
I really think the center glass is a wasted effort...but that is strickly my opinion and I do NOT want to sway you in any way....you do what you feel should be done...but I believe, if properly bracing this tank back to original spec, a new frame should be installed....

Wouldn't sweat it as in it should be fine for freshwater? They told her they'd brace it for saltwater

Wouldn't sweat it period.....again, thats just me. But I would make sure I didn't have a floating bottom and I would make sure the frames were at least protecting the edges.

I have never believed the plastic bracing to be adequate bracing. If the construction and design calls for external bracing, I will question why because I don't feel the thin plastic is enough to keep the tank from exploding.
I whole heartedly believe in bracing, don't get me wrong, I just want more substantial bracing.
Again, just my opinion....just my experience...

I agree the brace looks melted, perhaps a reptile tank at one time,

The bottom brace is there just because its the same trim as the top. The bottom of the tank is holding the sides from bowing not the brace.

Kinda my thoughts but just wanted others opinions. Gonna fill it up outside before putting it on the stand but I think we're safe. I trust the girl I got it from. She has many, many tanks and is very smart about her fish and tanks.
