Why are altolamprologus compressiceps so aggressive

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Zebra obliquidens is no push around. I have ZO before and they are very aggressive. The A. compressisep has home court advantage. Let ZO settles in and the tide may turn.

Doesnt seem like it as my 3/4 inch bigger dimi compressicep is now doing it but 10x worse. But it seems the gold head stopped. With the dimi, cuz its open water, has been ruthlessly attacking the ZO so now he is about an inch under the water and has most of his right pectoral fin missing

This is unusual. Usually, Altolamps (calvus or compressiceps) are only con specific aggressive. They are one of the best Tanganyika tank mates there is. They will defend a nest even against you - so, maybe, the tank size is not big enough or, perhaps, your Zebra's bars have triggered a conspecific attack????

Btw: Altolamps are not know as "eye bitters." That nick name belongs to a D. compressiceps from Lake Malawi.

Doesnt matter now, as the gold head or dimiodomis killed it
Btw it was 30 gallons but im planning to get a much larger zebra next time

I'm not familiar with the Zebra. Is that a south or Central American cichlid? I don't have any experiences mixing continents.

30-gallon is a little on the small side for Altolamps.
