Your Flowerhorn has a tumor....

So this past thanksgiving I had tons of friends and family over. Some were interested in my tank and some weren't. The ones that were were amazed by the flowerhorns I had and kept asking me why do they have tumors and are they sick. I got asked that so many times in the past and always gets me frustrated lol. Anytime I say its a man made fish they think somehow an actual human made this fish with their semen. LOL They ask something like that how does that work do they inject it in them. LOL I just laugh

Does anyone else get that?? I can't be the only one. Just today my wife goes to piss me off hey look the tumor is getting bigger lol

The big head is a natural trait of cichlids. And the bubble head trait is also a natural trait seen in Ampholophuses and Some others like the Haitiensis. Not man made trait.

So when they ask "what's up with the big head, is it a tumor?", by you answering them "because it's man made" is not correct explanation. The big head is from selective breeding. The Tumor is natural.

Long ago before I kept parrots, I first heard of parrot s being man made, I thought "EWW! WTF? Then some other idiots would say "man made at a lab"( I also passed those words around to more idiots like myself).
Man made at a lab by scientists with scalpos! That got even more nasty. I really thought some Frankenstein thing was going on with the parrots. I seriously did. But the truth is they are just mixed fish.

Yes I know the big head is a natural trait of cichlids. I breed red devils/midas so I would know. I never answer them its a man made fish? I'm not sure where you got that from the post but where I was getting at was I would tell them these flowerhorns are man made fish. I would tell them theyr'e a mixture of two fish that were never supposed to be from the same lake/ rivers and people started breeding the two and called them flowerhorns.

It's actually not a tumor they ask me I tell them it's a hump its fat storage some are filled with water or some are hard.
