Hello folks, Seasons Greeting and Happy hump day.

Its perfect time of the year and on 26 most of the hardware store will have some kind of sale. This site has members who are diy' ERS and handy folks. I am sure usually keep a hand tool set at home.

Just want some input which one is a good one and provide all the necessary tools in one bag ?

Thanks a lot

Cheers and have beers :)

Its tough to beat Sears' Craftsman tool sets. I bought one almost a decade ago and its still the foundation for my tool collection today.

You can not go wrong with Craftsman, Husky, Rigid, or Milwaukee.

After getting married, settling down and owning a home for the past 11 years, I've amassed a nice collection of hand and power tools. While most are brand names, I've been slowly building up a lot of Harbor Freight stuff, which are not high quality, but they work and they are very inexpensive. One of my most used tool is my cordless drill. It is a PorterCable brand from Lowe's and it is such a well built, powerful unit. Socket wrenches and screwdrivers are all Craftsman and are lifetime replacements.

In have one which I bought 7 Years ago. Its annoying that there is no magnetic tips on screw drivers and I have lost few bits in last few years and also the bits are damaged at the tips.

I want to get one this Xmas to freshen up my tool set. Lol

Hello; If you do not have any tools at all, then look for a set with the most pieces. I have many craftsman tools from Sears.
Quality of the tools is often dependent on the price. For light duty repair a cheap set may be enough. For repeated or heavy use get the best quality you can afford even if this means getting a set with fewer pieces. If you know a pro mechanic, then ask about their favorites. A pro will at least know the ones that break.

Sears craftsman hand tools often have a full replacement warranty. I have broken a few sockets, ratchets and wrenches which were replaced with no questions asked. Sears also carries a less expensive brand which is not so sturdy and will not be replaced if broken, so ask first.

I have an assortment of other brand hand tools that have been good. Some have been very good, so craftsman are not the only good quality worth having. I would have to look thru mine to get the names.

I picked up some cobalt tools from Lowes in the last few years. Not sure of the overall durability as I no longer do heavy work so much. No real complaints as yet, but not enough work with them to give an endorsment. I think they are decent but do not yet know if they match the top line Craftsman.

Sears has had some very good deals on tool sets. Problem being the timing.

really depends on what you need. 6 years worth of renovations has seen me burn through a bunch of tools. i really haven't had any issues with milwaukee, dewalt, or mastercraft maximum stuff.

i've killed skil, regular mastercraft, and ryobi stuff fairly quickly.

the problem with milwaukee and dewalt is that they tend to be expensive, so wait for sales. otherwise it can be insane buying anything.

for sockets, wrenches, bits, etc, maximum or dewalt is usually what i go for.

watch canadian tire, they usually blow stuff out after christmas, you can get good deals.
