Clown Loach Fin Rot

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
go by directions while it states can not be over dosed, what they suggest is the recommended dosage. you may need to think about methlylene baths if it does not clear up or gets worse.

Sounds good. The kanaplex just looks intimidating for some weird reason because I've never medicated a tank using a little scooper and some powder. lol Feels like I'm feeding my fish cocaine. With all the stress these guys have caused, I might share it with them! lol JK!

do the water change and do the dosage and keep us up dated. :) save the Peruvian marching powder for your self.

Fin rot isn't a deal breaker and it could also be a secondary delayed reaction to the medication used for the ich. Either way, treating the entire tank is a waste of meds iMO....and despite it being safe for the filters and such, it is an unnecessary med dosed to fish that don't need it. Now, you know the situation better than anyone and I d your gut says dose the whole tank go for it. But if you just don't want the hassle of a hospital tank.....
I just recently had several of my Clown Loaches develope a bacterial infection the looked like fin rot.....but it was only three of 10.
I literally removed every single rock, wood, plant in the entire tank and left them out in the sun for 48hrs. Removed the jacked up CLs and put them in a little tiny 10g with a HoB and and a sponge. I did daily water changes until those fish recovered....about three days.
The reason I like hospital tanks is it removes the fish from the others and the tank where they got infected....never had anything show up on the other fish in the main...and it allows you to use less meds, really guard the temperature and easy quick water changes.
Sometimes you just have to do due diligence.

I get what you're saying and fully agree. The way I'm looking at it is that I'm not worried about wasting meds and they're cheap and maybe, just maybe the aro intro'd into the tank brought the bacteria with it, and even if it didn't, it may now have it so putting 5 large clowns and aro in a hospital tank isn't worth all the hassle. Not to mention our house is up side down right now because we've got a ton of stuff out and in the middle of moving it into storage to make room. Setting up yet another tank in the middle of all this would not help the already existent chaos I'm dealing with.

Three other things in question here. When I added the CL's to this tank, it had a preexisting snail infestation. I'm wondering if these snails have been carrying something that may have been causing this.

Second, why has the largest CL been going up and down in the corners? At first I thought he was just playing around the past week but now that I've found this issue. It's clearly something else. Stress from the new aro? Stress from water/disease issues?

Third....crap...forgot what it was but when I remember, you'll know. Dang TBI.... lol

OH, and third, about 4 days ago I was wondering what was making the water so cloudy for a couple day. Search around and found a large silverside my bichir had not eaten and it was rotting. Wondering if that could have been the a factor in all this.

Just saw this thread. Don't really have much to offer on the subject, but feeling for ya, man. You've had a hell of a time. Hope it works out and you catch a break!

I really think it's bacterial... Sounds like your water went bad. I've had loaches do that from my water going bad. Big water changes, don't feed, try a anti bacterial med, and don't use melafix. Pimafix I'd use half of what they tell you to use cause I've had loaches drop dead from full doses. Api meds worked for me.

Does anybody think this little 9" arowana could be stressing the large clowns? The one looks the worst is the large 8" and he is regularly swimming up and down in one corner yet the aro doesn't mess with them one bit and they have way more than enough hiding places. I'm also not sure but I think he seems to do it mostly after water changes.
