Most cost effective way to feed arowana ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I buy shrimp and tilapia in bulk. I mix in hikari carnisticks a couple times a week but it took a long time for them to take the pellets. Best is to feed it what it's used to eating and slowly introduce new foods if you want to change up the diet

Hikari sticks, shrimp, guppies (bred at home), home made food

As treats I've done
Bloodworms
Insects like crickets and grubs from the lfs
Long time ago I used to feed the occasion small store bought mouse as well when the arow cleared 24" - not a big fan of this anymore just due to the high risk of disease transmission

Not all of these are cheap but depending on your region costs can change.

Are anyone's arowanas picky ?
They can be when they move home, ask the previous owner what it was fed. I have yet to meet an aro that will not be swayed by crickets and Hikari Jumbo carnisticks.

Mine Is fed Hikari Carnisticks, Sera Arowana pellets, raw prawn, raw hake, raw tilapia, crickets, giant mealworms, earthworms, nor everything at the same time, but I like to keep the diet varied, so it doesn't become too picky

Tilapia frozen lots of it in the freezer. Lol
Multi purpose. Can be used in fish pie or cut IP can be used to feed the monster pets :)
I buy Tilapia's and mixed raw seafood..

Fried calamri for me and tilapia cutups to gar and Poly's :)

I feed my Silver arowana Hikari carni sticks, raw shrimp, Krill, super worms, earthworms and the occasional anchovy bought whole frozen. Most of the time it's carni sticks, shrimp, krill & super worms. I feed the super worms with carrots and Flukers orange cricket food.

Normal silver and its eating shrimp night crawlers and feeders they said

if its already eating shrimp it's mostly likely it'll readily take tilapia and as it being a silver
it should take to any kind of food really as theyre not that picky. tilapia and shrimp bough
by the pound is very cost effective. 1 30$ bag of pellets last me 3 weeks give or take but
30$ worth of tilapia or raw seafoods last about 2-3 months.

^^ I agree with tomojsg on this one fresh is much cheaper way to go especially buying it in bulk and stocking the freezer , pellet is much more convenient once they take them saves time and effort defrosting foods and chopping up also gives you a bit of extra freezer space for family food hahaha , if your aro is taking shrimp and you want it on pellets start stuffing pellets into the shrimp chunks then gradually add more each feed, once it's comfortable feeding start to drop the stuffed shrimp in with a hand full of pellets the aro will get used to them soon enough

fresh is cheaper by the pound, but it's at least 95% water. the picky aros that i've kept that will only eat fresh grew much slower than the aros that would eat prepared foods (hikari sticks).
