12 inch Dovii still shy....

Well, every fish is different. However, it is common for dovii to be shy for a while. How big is the tank, is it in a high traffic area, is there any tankmates?

250g, high traffic, no tank mates, last tank mates, 6-7 inch bala sharks, were being bullied. so had take them out.

Thinking of adding large tin foil barbs.....

well, tank is plenty big, I would add some targetfish. Tinfoils might do the jpb, maybe even some other cichlids, midas, convicts, something that is hardy and can defend themselves.

A pair 5-6 inches Red devils and a pair of 6-8 inch barred midas , 8 inch vieja and a 9 dovii were his tank mates before., i had to take them out one by one .....

But I just discovered a solution.... I returned my old bala shark which was brutallized by the same dovii in the same tank, but this time I added a divider in the corner, so the bala shark is protected in the corner of the tank and at the same time, the divider is barely noticeable.

sorry for the poor quality video, he looks much better in "person" colors seems to be washed out and the blues missing...

If you ever end up doing something else, i would recommend getting a BIG school of very fast fish lol. Given that the dovii is a apex predator, he is gonna be able to get a bala shark or anything that isn't truly fast. Something like some big Giant danios. A big school of fish can be intimidating. I'm talking like 20+ of these guys. they are a very fast fish.

i agree although that can take time to get that many idk about you but the stores around me normally only carry 3 or 4 at a time he could setup a separate tank and collect them over time or i guess he could get them ordered for him but i think collecting them over time in another tank would be best what about you ?

tiger barbs might work if he got about 40 of them fairly fast and aggressive i used to have a school of about 18 of them and they lived with a diner plate sized puca they eventually killed the pacu but thats beside the point
