Hi y'all!! I rescued this little guy 4 years ago when he was about an inch and a half long.. Now he is almost 7 inches long. I never found out what specific kind of frontosa he was so I thought I'd ask :)

Right now he is in a 162 gallon aquarium with Ikola frontosa

Let me know :)

It's a Burundi, based on the stripe at the eye that continues straight up to the hump. Other blue face or blue Frontosa found in southern half of the lake, now renamed Gibberosa, has the stripe turns forward at the eye and wraps around like wearing a sunglass. Burundi are the most common Frontosa sold in LFSs. The OP fish has good size hump characteristic of Burundi.

Thank you so much!! It's weird because I bought a "gold top frontosa" like 5 years ago and it has the same stripe going down the eye, it was probably mislabeled?

Sorry to say "gold top frontosa" is a made up name. You basically have frontosa named by collection points on lake tanginiyka like brundi, etc. Then more southern you have gibberosa which were formly thought to be frontosa, but due to various characteristics were later reclassified. In the mid range of the lake you have Tanzania caught frontosa the mpimbwe. Brundi typically have the largest nuchal humps, but some other varieties can have a pronounced forehead as well. I would concur that he is a brundi based on the blue and general shape, however the yellow is throwing me off in the dorsal. This is a common trait in kigoma, but he only has 6 stripes, so.... could be a crossbreed as well.

Cool!! Yeah and I thought the "gold top frontosa" was a made up name since I could never find info on it. I'll grab some photos of the others then to see what ta think

I'm thinking this one is a female, but this is the one that was labeled "gold top frontosa" but I'm not sure what kind of frontosa this is either
