who else feeds crickets or any different critters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
During the summer months, my fish, especially my natives, gets all kinds of buggy critters I catch outside. I've taken full possession of my son's bug-catcher-vacuum-gun toy and it is great for effortlessly catching all kinds of bugs without smooshing them.Screenshot_2016-01-11-10-33-42.png

I have even fed them fish flakes and crushed pellets...a dead feeder goldfish too. They eat just about everything I give them.

My 3 year old nephew received a garder snake for his birthday. In an effort to have food always available the boy's parents thought it would be a good idea to add a few crickets to the terrarium so this itty bitty new born snake could eat at its leisure. The crickets initially chewed on earthworms left for the snake. After a couple days of that the crickets got bored of (or maybe ran out of) worms and turned their attention to the worm with teeth. The moral of the story is don't gift three year olds snakes and that crickets will eat anything.

Never heard of that thing before.I'm guessing it is battery operated?

Yep, 9v. It is designed to allow a safe/harm-free release of the specimens..........except under my evil usage
I can think of a few nefarious uses of my own, where would I get something like that.

Tanks a lot!

My Jaguars and my Jacks used to go nuts for live crickets 2x per week or so. Gutload them with pellets or if you are having trouble getting your fish to eat veggies, gutload them with veggies so they pass on the nutrients when they are in turn eaten by the fish. Local insects and earthworms are fine as well as long as they aren't taken from land that has been treated with pesticides, mine were particularly fond of Potato beetles, Japanese beetles and Junebugs, as well as house centipedes.

For fry an excellent protein-boost are leftover shrimp tails.....in other words, when we go out for seafood or make shrimp cocktail or other shrimp dishes, I always had everyone save a big pile of shrimp tails when they were done eating and I'd give them a quick rinse and drop them into the fry tank. The fry are so small they can get to the meat inside the small parts of the shell no human or adult fish would stand a chance of accessing, and it lasts for several days. The meaty remains in clam, mussel or oyster shells, (mainly the feet) are also a good choice.
