Dechlorinator overdose

Given the incident with my unfortunate pleco, it at least tells us that overdosing to the degree I did; i.e. something like 1200%, can have serious consequences. I'll try and find the ingredients for the conditioner i used, instead of making a blanket statement though.

I think between the gold nugget and blue phantom, the phantom is more likely to come out from under the driftwood. They both typically hang out in the driftwood "cave" or hanging upside underneath. When the blue moonlight is on or all lights off (even during the day) the phantom typically cruises around more. At least this is what I've observed with mine.

Convict360, I typically poor in a small cup that I always use when dosing Prime, Stability, etc. This just decreases my chances of overdosing. I've done it enough where I use the lines on the cup and know how much I need to pour. It helps if you've got someone nagging in your ears

Viejafish .....the problem with generalizing, is that unlike you some people turn their filters off during a water change, and on a large water change that could mean no 02 exchange taking place for a considerable amount of time. Then factor in number & size of fish, temperature of water as less 02 available to fish at higher temps, how large of an overdose of dechlorinator, etc. Every single parameter becomes significant. Higher temperature of water combined with their reducing agents creating lower 02 levels is exactly why Seachem warns consumers about not overdosing when tank water temp is above a certain setpoint.

I have to turn off all my filters. I dont add any safe/prime until im refilling and theres a decent amount of water movement.

My filters are always off and not able to run when I do fin level WC. My overdosing is quite substantial given that my tap water has chlorine only, and the cascading water will drive out most residual chlorine. I worry more about air bubble disease than depletion of oxygen from overdosing.

If that was a question, sodium thiosulfate reacts less than Seachem products, but sodium thiosulfate is also a reducing agent, and an oxygen scavenger.

Most dechlorinaters use sodium or calcium thiosulfate as active ingredients, and if overdosed are usually not a problem, and will often oxidize other minerals/chemicals in the water, when the chlorine/chloramine is neutralized.

Just so I (the slow one of the bunch) can be clear if a double or triple dose of diy dechlorinator (sodium thiosulfate mixed precisely as possible) is safer than say a triple dose of safe? (In regards to oxygen depletion)
