My Green Terror Male or Female?

I don't agree with the others. I say it's a male. I

That's an awesome GT, really stocky. If I had to put my money down, I'd say female due to the head shape, body colouring, tail shape and lack of thick banding. Best way is to vent

had one similar that grew to be 11 inches. It had the color but none of the other nice male trates. Never could tell until I had an actual female in tank.

No trailer fins, but it was STILL a male? This would only be the 2nd time I've heard of this

I say we encourage him to put a guaranteed female in the tank and see what happens, that way if they breed MFK has 1st-dibs on a LOT of really nice pick-of-the-litters.


.... then again I also have a friend who kept 2 male GTs in an aggressive cichlid community w/ JDs, Convicts, Jewels, Jaguars, etc.

usually all male tanks can work out, it's only when you add females into the mix that things get rowdy; exactly like humans

I have enough aggression with these 2 females.....if they didn't have red everywhere, I'd trade 'em for another Jaguar......no, but seriously they have like the most red I ever seen and are heterozygous for Pink. I keep. no sell. I keep.

Why all the rave? Seriously, they are some mean little hardcore gangster-fish, but dude....lol, idk, I just need more of a challenge I guess.

That's when I became a Jaguar-fanatic

No difference in care, just an extra 10-inches of BEAST.

EDIT - Jaguars need more crude protein.

JUST CONVICTS??? convicts are the only fish I've ever had breed outside during winter in a temperate climate, also the only fry I've had to survive such conditions - during a power outage! (<--- not that I've actually tried with any other fish) On top of that, convicts have a monster attitude, without the monster tank/feeding requirements!

You got convicts to breed outside in winter? lol ok, I give up....unless you're in the Amazon, N. Australia or Equatorial Africa, I'm not seeing how. True, 72F is recommended low for Tropical fish, and while during a power outage I had many fish hold strong at 56F - Jacks, Jaguars, Cons, Jewels, Texas, etc.....but I lost a few stunning Acaras and Green Terrors, and in other instances I lost Jaguar-fingerlings in 68F-70F the previous year.

Fish are too unpredictable.

sidenote, 8 Tropical catfish from 4 different continents also maintained through the 2-3 day power out and resumed a normal feeding/activity schedule afterwards. Experiments also show Piranhas going dormant at 56F also, but still surviving - the reason they can live in places like Lake of the Ozarks and other temperate North American waters they've been introduced.
