How big are the atf? Malas aren't typically aggressive, alot of the time it's the other fish starting something it can't finish. Aimara comm are becoming more and more common as people are becoming more daring and not listening to all the hype. If you're tank is big enough and you have enough fish so not one fish is getting all of the aggression, you should be fine. Again it depends on the specimen, if your atf are 10" I'd say go for it. DB junkie can give a better response having done it.

The vitts are around the 10 " Mark the smallest is a little smaller and biggest is over 10 but the g is under 9" ! I could just try a little Mala they about 4 ", the tigers just don't hassle the other fish at all, at first they ruined a few dollars/redhooks ate some ditherer barbs and constantly hassled two silver sharks until I removed them, vit on vit is the only agression in the tank.

I would think that's your best bet, an amaira will grow fast and soon be over 2.5ft surrounded by shiny smaller fish with attitude.
I haven't kept amaira but I had a large Wyckii in a community and the other smaller fish permanently having ripped fins gets tiresome even if they aren't killed.
Amaira must be more aggressive than a Wyckii surely, their reputation is legendary after river monsters...

I say grow the wolf out to about 7" then and put him in if you're gonna do mala. You can try curu too, though I've found my curu to be a little more territorial than the typical malas I've kept. He's killed 2 balas and a jag, though the jag was the aggressor in that case. Idk how one would act with Atf. I got mine with an odoe in a 120 and 5 bichirs, and a sun cat. He chases the odoe and cat sometimes, he'll grab them if he can which is where the problem can occur, the odoe has learned to keep away, atf being faster I think would help them and they'd learn and be fine. But if a wolf gets a good grab it could be fatal. And vice versa. Aimara aren't as bad as they are said to be I believe. But I wouldn't say try that in anything smaller than a 600 due to their eventual size. The curu and mala you can get away with in a much smaller tank. And since you have atf I'm sure you're going to have a big enough tank, which will be better. I think you'll be fine. If I were you I'd get a curu. I like the look more, or you can try and get a lac which are suppose to be more peaceful than the others, though true Lacerdae seem to be rare.oter species will be hard to get ahold of or hard to ID on the spot. Edit: regarding justarns response, most people report slow growths from aimara. They don't grow to 2ft very fast, most wolves get really girthy after 12" and then growth slows drastically from there. Also it'll be a long while before you have a 2.5' aimara. I don't think anyone has one that big right now, Vince has the largest I believe at 25" or that other guy that's rarely on at a similar size. No 30" ones have been reported. Everyone with these sized wolves report slow growths especially. Aimara are a specimen case as other wolves. A wyckii is another story. And I wouldn't relate the two. Both have a reputation, but there are more success stories for aimara. DB announced his recently passed at around 18" I believe and he had it for atleast 2 years I also believe, maybe he can clarify. But I do agree, if you don't have plans of a tank of 600+ gallons one of the other wolves would be a better option

Interesting ty . The only wolves avail to me atm are Mala got two in atm and the amira's on the current list, the fish can only be ordered if I am going to get it due to the price tag, is there reliable info on the growth rate and eventual size of an amira wolf say it's turns up at 11" and goes into the 400 with a plan for an 800 when the tigers hit the 17" Mark. No one has made a chart tracking their wolfs growth that I know of. The larger aimaras we see are normally brought in at that size. Like there was that one fish I'm not sure what happened to that shark aquarium brought in I believe it was 32". Then some guy that caught one and put it in a 15000g aquarium claimed his to be 45 pounds which it looked every bit of Imo. If you do this plan of the eventual 800 I think you'll be ok, but things can go wrong with plans, life gets in the way sadly, you have quite a bit of tigers, and they'll all make the 400 look small at that size imo, why not go straight for the 800? Why. Or do both wolves? I've always liked the idea of more than one wolf. I'm looking for a fair sized mala to try and add to my tank. Honestly all you can do is research everywhere you can on aimara, I've looked through everything multiple times when I get bored I go back and reread on species everything I can find, I don't recall ever reading a fast growth of an aimara above 15". If you get it at the 11" mark I don't think it'll eat any of your tigers. But again, it all depends on the specimen, he can take chunks out of fish he can't swallow, so you have to decide if you want to risk it. It's definitely doable. Maybe DB can chime in on when he felt safe putting his atf with his aimara etc. maybe pm him and try to find out what you can about his experience with the two. Or go back and read some of his threads. I ask a lot of questions on them lol, maybe some of his answers will help. All you can honestly do is research and make the decision, but don't listen to all the hype you hear on their aggression, that can be due to insufficient tank size, or it can be just that specimen, there's a guy on here right now who has aimara and curu together in a 180 with little aggression so far from what he shared, but I don't know how long that'll last if you get me... I believe they're all around a foot. He only shared having one aimara with us but I went on YouTube and saw he posted a new vid of two in the tank and put a net in cornering them so they'd attack it, which I don't agree with at all, and then goes and says believe what you read about aimaras they're as aggressive as they're said to be etc. but what do you expect a fish at the top of its food chain to do when cornered, it's dominant attitude should make you assume it's gonna retaliate, especially since it has nowhere to run. I didn't agree with that.
