Of the eight Madagascan cichlid species that I keep, none are as magnificent as the Pinstripe Damba. It is one of the more frequently available ones in the cichlid hobby but by no means common. They do best in groups of 6 or more and since they will reach a maximum length of 10"+, large tanks (150G or more) are best provided. Here is a video of my six year old pair guarding their eggs which were laid yesterday.

Amazing video (again!). Are you running blue lighting on this tank? The color saturation on these Dambas is more intense than I recall seeing before. Superb job on this pair.

Northo2000, I was raving about your tanks over breakfast the other day. I told my friend to check your video of the Damba's. I am going to send him this video.

Awesome video :)

What are the 8 species you keep?

I have 5, hard to find some others I want

Thanks Jason. Paretroplus maculatus, menarambo, kieneri, dambabe, nourissati, Ptychochromis grandidieri, oligacanthus, Paratilapia polleni.

Thankyou. I'm not sure why the video is more blueish. The lighting is 'daylight' fluorescents (T8s)

Wow! Fantastic!

Thanks.

I decided to pull the spawn on the third day. Even though the parents were doing a fine job and might have taken the eggs to hatching, the track record of this species is not the greatest. Hence the removal. The eggs look to be in great shape. It takes about 7 days for the eggs to hatch at ~80F so 4 more days and I'll see if I get a hatch. Hopin'.DSC04865.JPG

Awesome looking pair, great job in the spawn! Hope they'll hatch successfully!

Beautiful fish! Jim! Fingers crossed for the success of the eggs!

I've been looking to change it up a bit for myself, and I am going to free up a 125 to do one of the Madagascan species. The Menarambo are on my short list, but I was wondering what your experiences have been like with the Nourissati?

Looks like you have a very good start with no fungus present.
