I have several tanks with juvenile cichlids.Spent a very cold day in NE Pennsylvania nice and warm in the fishroom doing water changes and taking photos.

Chiapaheros grammodes...I have three of these.

Cichlasoma sieboldi....previously Tomocichla...I have a half dozen of these. I picked up this fish primarily because when I went looking for photos of the species I found very few. One thing is certain, if the fish is in my tank, it's going to be documented.

Neetroplus nematopus...nasty little buggers. I have six of these in with my Grammodes and will likely have to give them their own tank.

I have a couple species specific non-cichlid tanks up and one catch all community tank that I use to put fish after they have been sent to me for photographs. The only cichlid in that tank is Archocentrus nanoluteus...a really pretty fish from Panama.

Good stuff. I wasn't familiar with the Cichlasoma sieboldi. Nice looking fish.

Also, which is more correct for nanoluteus, Archocentrus or Cryptoheros? I see Cryptoheros much more frequently. Yours are beautiful.

Yes. My bad. I meant to type Cryptoheros. Thanks.

You said you might have to separate the Grammodes, and the Neetroplus nematopus, is it because the Grammodes will kill the Neetroplus nematopus or is it because the tank is too small? I like both, just wondering...

I am not familiar with the species except for neulutas which I currently keep among other Cryptoheros species. On my first look, I thought the nematopus were C. sajica as they share similar body pattern. Their look alike is not casual as at one time they were in the same genus and nematopus was not always monotypic as Crytoheros panamensis at one time was called Neetroplus panamensis.

These medium size CA/SA deserve more popularity in the hobby. They have the look, behavior and demeanor of tank busters in small package, so you don't really need big tanks to keep them.

Actually the Grammodes are pretty rough on the Neets. I have only the Neets and the Grammodes in a 100 gallon tank. So for now, there's plenty of room.
