This thread makes me want to run home and take my 60 gallon with all black silicone seams down right now.

Skalper666 Skalper666 how long does the silicone take to breakdown?

I'm sitting at about 10 months from when I bought it brand new.

Not too sure how long it takes on average for the silicone to breakdown. I believe the tank that i bought was only a year or two old when it happened. I have read that black silicone is not as strong as clear and should not be used on the bottom pane of large tanks. The tank i bought leaked in the front bottom black seam. Here is a pic of the tank I bought with the issue.

well i should knock on wood than.. i have my 180 and 120 for at less 10 years now and going strong but all were clear silicon.. as for the 300 i'm going to fix it up and see or going to setup another bigger tank of about the same width..

may have been anything that caused these leaks as I do stand behind marineland. I had their 65 gallon up to a 200 gallon custom from them and all were good

We had a 45 and a 60 gallon Marineland Cube tank with absolutely no issues at all. Our second DD tank leaked in just over a year.

The percentage of failures must be pretty low, otherwise I would get alot more hits on a Google search. Usually an unhappy customer goes to great lengths to voice their displeasure.
