Myleus schomburgkii ID Verification

So, my wife and I ordered 6 Myleus schomburgkii from The Cichlid Exchange through our local LFS. The stock list was labeled as Myleus schomburgkii WILD Colombia. It is my understanding, from reading post on here and other forums, that the Colombia locale of schomburgkii are the "thin bar" variety. Naturally, that's what we thought we were going to receive when we placed the order. Unfortunately, to my untrained eye, it looks as though we received the "wide bar" variety instead. Can anyone confirm this with the pic below? Sorry for the low quality, this photo was taken shortly after placing them in their quarantine tank. To me, the bars seem wider than what I've seen on pics of the "thin bar" and there is no "red hook" on any of our new silver dollars. I can try and snap some better pics later on, once they get a little more settled into their new environment, if that helps. Thanks for any help!

Ugh.....I had a feeling that was going to be the case. Looks like these guys are going to be for sale in the very new future. We've got a group of 6 Metynnis fasciatus coming from Jeff Rapps this week and were hoping to have a nice group of medium sized silver dollars for our new 220 or 265 gallon tank. Lesson learned....don't order anything online unless you know exactly what you're getting.

Turns out, from talking with The Cichlid Exchange, the silver dollar variety that we received is from the Rio Orinoco River area and is neither the thin-bar red hook or the giant wide bar. They claim that this variant will max at around 10". Looks like time will tell whether or not this is the case.

They get big and thick 13" average.

UGH! Not what I was hoping to hear....lol. Looks like they'll be going to the auction block. Just a heads up...anyone looking on Aquabid. You won't receive the fish in the photo (thin bar red hook)...it's going to be the GIANT wide bar schomburgkii.

I loved mine... until they got to big and thick...lol.. my biggest was about 15 inches when i sold them. If you want a suggestion for a nice medium sized "silver dollar" try to find Dolphin Pacu

Oh, I've seen quite a few YouTube videos of them and lots of photos on here, and they are absolutely awesome. My biggest issues are, not getting the fish we thought we ordered and, more importantly (to me), is being able to appropriately accommodate such large adult specimens. We are planning on buying either a 220 or 265 gallon tank in the next month and don't feel like that's a large enough tank to house 6 of these as adults (along with the other fish we were planning on keeping). I suppose we could keep them until they outgrew the new tank and then sell them. But, I'm guessing the market for a group of 6 - 12-15" fish is pretty small.

Personal preference. I would keep them they can get much bigger then the thin bars. I have both wide and thin. Click my Youtube below to see mine..
