Trying to get a better pic of the Texas before school. The colors on him/her are a little better here. They're all scared of my phone for sone reason lol

There are regional variants of carpintis such as carpintis escondido. The differences are quite subtle to my eyes.
There are also other species that look very similar such as deppi and tamasopeonsis. These are not widely available to my knowledge but there are others out there other than carpintis and cyannoguttatus.
Excuse the spelling of names they may be a little wrong.

So I don't know what to do about him. I'm upgrading (most likely building) a considerably larger tank. It'll probably be around 125 but I'm not sure yet. I'm reading that Texas are pretty brutal. Should I return it and choose another cichlid? I try for the spread out aggression approach with cichlids but don't want an all out war. I'd really like to add an Albino Oscar to the crew but don't want the Texas to kill is as they grow

This was five years ago. I only had him about three years and had to trade him because I moved tanks. He was a cool fish about 11". Wasn't aggressive for me because he was housed with more aggressive fish. They can be though.

Like what kind?

Not sure I just got my first Oscar. I have best luck when I grew my sa/ca cichlids together when small.
