HOB overflow noise/water level

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know someone answered the reason for the tube - was it to create siphon? I've not used that, but I have found that you need to still control the flow with a gate valve or equivalent.

Wolf is correct, and it wont perfectly match between return flow and drain without the valve, imo.

The airline tube worked its much quieter.

Running the pump on the lowest setting seems to work well thw levels in the sump and tank are constant

i usually cut the tube in the overflow at a slight angle. keeps the water from flowing over the whole edge of the pipe so it lets air out. my tank is dead silent shookONES shookONES can confirm

Thx man yeah shook suggested that. Lol its actually how i screwed up the pvc that came with it.

Wasnt paying attention when i put it under the skill saw....sent the thing flying across the room lol

Problem solved. Was going to put together a hofer gurgle buster tonight but first wanted to try cutting the pvc at 45°
Made a big improvement but still heard a slight gurgle. Added Airline tubing just below the the tip of the pipe and its totally silent. Only noise now comes from the water moving through the drain pipe wich is minimal.

Thought i would post this incase anyone else runs into this issue. Since i had all the parts for the HGB i decided to try that too. Both work fine (HFG or the 45° cut). Maybe the hfg is a smidge quiter but not by much.

45°

HGB

The vids are making things sound louder than they really are. In person its really quiet

Both methods work fine
