ya....it took me a second cuz they were actually built just like Jags....even when I just checked on them in the new tank I kept asking myself "There's no such thing as an Electric Blue Jaguar, is there?", but then I was like "Well, if Petco's supplier sent them as JDs and THEY didn't know either, then I guess neither one of them cares"

Do you have to breed EBJD to EBJDs to produce them or can you breed a EBJD to a normal JD and get half normals and half EBJDs or what?

I know genetics pretty darn well, but IDK if Electric Blue is Recessive or Dominant or what.

EBJD breeding is a thing shrouded in mystery. Weather the gene is natural or from hybridization is still debated. The "jag" build you talk about comes from the fact that many EBJD are actually physically deformed. While some cases are pretty mild, I've also seen horrible deformities that are still sold because all the breeder cares about is the profit.

Also for breeding, theoretically, you'd get best results from a good EBJD (many seem to be sterile) and what is called a blue gene Jack Dempsey or BGJD, basically a JD carrying the blue gene.

so it must be recessive then if they have a Heterozygous "carrier"

True a steal, but I had 6 of these in my tank from fry. 3 of them died suddenly and for no reason, I took them back to the shop (the dead one) and the guy (who has never steered me wrong before) said that is common amongst EBJD as they are a recessive gene and as a result so can be VERY fragile, and some just flat out die!

He refunded me the cost of the 3 dead ones, and the other 3 flourished and were great!
