Here are some close-up pictures of the stained canopy. I got the trim router from Harbor Freight for $23 and a roman ogee bit for $4. The routing isn't perfect, but I think they did a good job for the price!
There will be a piece of trim running along the top to cover the non-stained part of the canopy; it is currently drying in my basement.
I will update again when I complete the next step of the process.
So this weekend was a busy one. I completed and installed the canopy on Saturday. This included staining and gluing the top trim piece along the very top of the canopy and installing the electrical components inside of the canopy. Running the wiring was quite the tedious process!!
There is a small gap along the top of the tank (by design) that I do not like now that my plan has come to fruition. I am now devising a way to minimize that gap as best as possible. There will also be trim installed along the bottom of the tank to cover the blue foam.
Here are a couple pics of the canopy installed:
Here are a few pics of the interior of the canopy. I was able to reuse the old basking platform; but I reinvented how it was secured in place. Also, there are five fixtures placed semi-evenly in the canopy. in the middle, there is a ceramic heating device that is always on. This is connected to the dimmer switch so I can vary the inside temp. On the left and right side, there is a pairing of an UVA halogen bulb with a UVB Fluorescent bulb, each connected to one of the switches. Both bulb pairings switches are always on, but connected to the timing device which automatically turns the bulbs off and on. (The UVB bulbs are still in the mail!)
All that I have left to complete are the bottom doors and the trim along the bottom of the tank!
