My Spartacus almost ended him as he throttled him and had him pinned down within minutes of breaching my property line. The owner literally had to pick him up and carry him back home.
my friend's Pitbull died just before it's 17th birthday........I would tell the owner he's been warned.
The thing I'm having trouble with when finding a new breed is the lifespan of the larger breeds. My friend had two Great Danes and neither lived to see their 8th birthday. My German Shepard will be 10 in March but has blood cancer and is living day by day. It's sad that all the dogs I listed were all bred by credible breeders. My girls breeder suffered from a stroke and had to surrender all his dogs. My old sheltie was pedigree perfect to breed standards but at 13 he got lymphoma and keeled over half way through chemotherapy.
.....and it was from a gas leak inhalation, not old age or natural causes. My oldest just turned 11 in November and he still acts the same as when he was a puppy. Full of energy, always excitable, licks your face, roughhouses with his mate and daughter.....and me. Raised him in a house with kittens, cats, an alligator and a Burmese python. Talk about socialized lolol
There are a lot of good choices for mid-sized dogs that live long....have you checked out the other "Bully" breeds? I also own American Bulldog, but there are also English Bull Terrier and Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Boxer, English Bulldog as well as American Staffordshire Terrier for starters. I love Husky, Malamute, Eskimo-Spitz, Border Collie, Labrador, Old English Bulldog, Mastiff, Irish Wolfhound, Elkhound, Akita, .....and of course Shepherd and Sheltie - I think everyone loves those 2
